Chef Orient is a good steakhouse which also serves sushi. Only few now might remember this spot as the old El Torito location. It seems like it might not be great Japanese food since half of the restaurant serves Chinese food, but it apparently is affilitated with Sakura Tokyo and has quite excellent food. We head out to this spot quite often to meet up with friends and family.
We have always found the cuts of meat (sushi and cooked) to be extremely good. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is comfortable, very pleasant. The chefs are sure to give you a good time. Expect the average entrée to cost from $8 to $12, and you`ll be appropriate if dressed casual. Reservations are accepted in Chef Orient. Carryout is available. Smoking is allowed in the lounge. Parking has been arranged for customers. There are several ways to pay such as cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Diners Club and Discover. There are many services in Chef Orient such as Teppanyaki, Table Cooking, Szechuan, Sushi Bar, Mandarin, Japanese, Cocktails, Chinese, Take OUT Available, Chinese & Japanese Cuisine, Vegetables, Take OUT & Catering Available, Soup, Seafood, Pork, and Poultry. Chef Orient is a good steakhouse which also serves sushi. Chef Orient is three restaurants in one. There is a typical Japanese chef-cooks-at-your-table section; a Chinese section with ala carte entrees and a so-so lunch/dinner buffet; and a sushi bar. The Japanese side of the restaurant fills quickly on the weekends - definitely make a reservation for dinner. Dinners include soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, entree, zucchini and onions, bean sprouts and ice cream. And its all cooked in front of you. I recommend the tuna steak, scallops or tenderloin. They also serve an unusual (and delicious) rack of lamb cooked on the grill. All the meals come with a shrimp appetizer, so, unless you really like shrimp, order something other than shrimp for the entree. The Japanese side is a great choice for families. Chef Orient is also a popular choice for groups of friends and birthdays (the staff will come to your table banging a gong and singing!!). Seating is somewhat crowded with groups put together to fill up the table. Vegetarians have limited choices, a vegetable stir-fry on the Japanese side, some veggie sushi and some ala carte or buffet choices on the Chinese side.
